Parents & Family

Welcome from the Director
Dear Parents and Family Members,
Since 1994, Lafayette has offered a unique program called Gateway, which pairs your student with a masters-level counselor to guide their career development. The college years are exciting, and sometimes confusing, but always a time of great personal and intellectual growth. We help your student make the most of his or her experiences in order to be competitive for opportunities after Lafayette.
Gateway is not a “cookie cutter” approach to career planning. Because we know that students come with different levels of awareness about careers, we begin wherever they are in the process. Committing to the Gateway program in the first year gives your student time for exploring interests and values; time for building skills through academics, co-curricular activities, volunteer service and internships; and time for developing their Lafayette career network. And, it doesn’t require a huge time commitment.
We offer many programs which you can explore further here. Be sure to read about our extraordinary Winter Break Externship program which just celebrated its 30th year! We are extremely proud that our programs are supported by over 700 dedicated alumni and parents who generously give their time and talent each year to help students explore careers, gain experience, and transition to graduate school and the world of work.
I invite you to learn more about our Gateway program, and contact me with any questions.
Best regards,
Linda Arra
