NonProfit Leadership Development Program (sponsored by National Penn Bank)

WHAT IS IT?
The NonProfit Leadership Development Program,sponsored by National Penn Bank, formerly KNBT Bank, is a multi-week program that teaches the ins and outs of the nonprofit sector.  The program will run for five to eight weeks in the summer and students will participate in a one-day per week seminar lasting roughly two hours. It is a supplement to an internship in the nonprofit sector, open to students interning at a Lehigh Valley nonprofit.

Participating students will benefit from executives and members of nonprofits who will come and speak about a variety of topics, some of which include:

*Budgeting procedures such as grant writing, fundraising
*Differences between nonprofits such as size, type, issues they face
*Managing volunteers and utilizing boards
*Necessary communication skills and leadership styles
*Strategic planning and founding an organization

Organizations that will potentially provide speakers consist of:

*The American Red Cross
*United Way
*Boys and Girls Clubs of America
*Volunteer Center of the Lehigh Valley
*Community Action Committee of the Lehigh Valley
*Lehigh County Conference of Churches
*Safe Harbor
*Pennsylvania Association of Nonprofit Organizations (PANO)
*Weed and Seed
*The Nurture Nature Center

WHEN IS IT?
Sessions will be held on Fridays during the summer from 11 am to 2 pm, beginning in the middle of June and continuing through late July

BENEFITS:
This program provides students with networking opportunities with leaders in the nonprofit sector as well as with other interns participating in the program.
Students will learn about what it takes to successfully run and manage a nonprofit organization in order to become a better candidate for future employment, and become aware of the multitude of paths that nonprofits offer.
A certificate of completion will be awarded,  which enhances the student’s resume.
Students receive first priority for free on-campus housing for the summer.

Fill out the application and bring it to Career Services. Decisions will be made on a rolling basis, and applications will not be accepted after May 3th, 2013.

***Please note that you must have already obtained a summer internship at a nonprofit in the Lehigh Valley to apply.
