Externship Hosting Information

Host an Externship
For more than 35 years, Lafayette students have pursued two-to-five-day shadowing experiences through the Externship Program. These unpaid opportunities take place each January. Through externships, sophomores, juniors, and seniors become immersed in the host’s daily activities in order to gain a better understanding of their career field. We seek alumni, parent, and other extern hosts in diverse career areas, geographic locations, as well as in graduate and professional school.

Resources for Planning Your Externship

Lafayette students participate in externships to gain a realistic understanding of a career field, explore career options related to their major, and learn the daily activities of an occupation. Students are eager to ask questions, gather information, and seek the advice of their extern host. Externships are helpful to students as they plan for future courses, internships, and other ways to Utilize these helpful tools to support you as you plan a meaningful experience for your extern:

Each January approximately 300 sophomores, juniors, and seniors shadow professionals and current graduate students. We are continuously seeking new hosts who are able to assemble an itinerary of experiences for a student that provide a “real world” look at a career area or graduate program of study.
